Destined for demolition, neighbors protested and Landmarks Illinois intervened to save the property.

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District Headquarters will be going up for auction on March 7, 2013 and developers are having a look.

The Chesler Group was there for a walk-through held today for prospective bidders on one of Cleveland’s rare historic gems, part of the redevelopment of the Downtown Lakefront.

David Browning, managing director of the Cleveland office of real estate brokerage CBRE, said the open outcry auction is set for next March 7 at noon at the Sheraton Cleveland Airport Hotel. The building sits across the street from the new Cleveland convention center rising on the city’s Mall, and has been viewed as a potential site of a hotel, apartments or a mixed-use property.

Guests toured the grounds of the magnificent property under the geodesic dome.

The stylish post-modern interior provided the ambiance for afternoon festivities.

A backdrop of rolling lawn surrounded by wooded forest encircles the glass, concrete and steel structure offering balance and elegance to modern design.

The Chesler Group, Inc. is selected to receive $1.4 million in Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits from the Ohio Department Services Agency ( known formerly as Ohio Department of Development ) for the complete interior and exterior rehabilitation of the historic Carlisle Block Building in Downtown Chillicothe, Ohio. This is the fourth award for The Chesler Group, Inc. all in different Ohio counties: Geauga, Summit and Trumbull and now, Ross County.

The $8 million renovation of The Carlisle will restore the circa 1885 Romanesque four-story condemned building which was partially destroyed by arson in 2003. Without the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits, the rehabilitation of The Carlisle Block Building would not be possible. Restoration of The Carlisle will create a “mini-stimulus” for the region and will change the fabric of Downtown Chillicothe by restoring the Crown Jewel of its Historic Business District.

The Carlisle will be redeveloped in partnership with the Adena Health System and the Chillicothe-Ross Community Foundation. The building will be primarily used to house Adena’s medical residents.

After a one year review to redevelop the historic Mather Mansion, The Chesler Group has been chosen by Cleveland State University to embark on the restoration and development of this Cleveland landmark property.

The Mather Mansion is one of the only surviving mansions on Euclid Avenue’s Millionaire’s Row.

Iron-ore shipping magnate Samuel Mather contracted Italian craftsmen and used a variety of imported building materials to construct the grand mansion for his family in 1910.

At the time of it’s completion, the Mather Mansion was one of the most expensive homes on Millionaire’s Row

In 1973 the 45-room mansion, located on the campus of Cleveland State University, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Chesler Group is an ward winning expert in historic restoration, development, design, construction, and financing of unique and significant properties.

The mansion at 2605 Euclid Ave. was designed by Cleveland architect Charles F. Schweinfurth, who also designed Trinity Cathedral and about a dozen other mansions on the street. It was completed in 1910 at a cost of $1.2 million, at that time the most expensive home ever built in Cleveland, according to historical documents.

One of the most Lavish homes on “Millianaires Row” the Mather Mansion is constructed of handcrafted stone, brick and woodwork and is replete with hand carved mouldings.

You are invited to tour the recently renovated, award-winning ASM International Headquarters. This building is one of the first Mid-century Modern buildings to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places and receive State and Federal Historic Tax Credits.

Originally constructed in 1959, the building embodies the vision and life-work of three men: John Terence Kelly, a prominent Cleveland Modern architect at the time, William H. Eisenman, one of ASM’s founding members and its long-time National Secretary, and R. Buckminster Fuller, the world-famous mathematician, philosopher and inventor. Today, the building stands as an iconic symbol of Modern architecture and technological innovation throughout the world.

The Chesler Group completed the challenging and unique ASM International Headquarters renovation, true to the vision of the original architects, in July 2011. Since completion, the building has received the following awards:

• Award of Excellence – Cleveland Engineering Society
• 2012 Preservation Award – AIA Cleveland/Cleveland Restoration Society
• Heritage Award – Heritage Ohio

We are extremely pleased to announce that we have commissioned Esto Photographics to document our restoration of the ASM Headquarters building. Highly regarded for their “Images of Architecture and the Built Enviornment” , Esto was created around the image collection of Ezra Stoller (1915- 2004) who is considered the dean of American architectural photographers. Stoller studied architecture in the 1930s but turned his attention to photography while he was still in school. For nearly 50 years, in the middle decades of the 20th Century, Stoller documented important modern architecture. The strength of this collection remains at the core of Esto even today.

Photographer Jeff Goldberg was chosen as best suited to document the structure. Goldberg trained at RIT and has worked as an Esto affiliate for over 15 years. He received the prestigious AIA Collaborative Achievement Award in 1997. Jeff works closely with architects, and his lively images capture the intent of the designers. Jeff’s well-crafted photographs depict structure, materiality and often include people in action.

In the last few years, Jeff has spent much of his time in Japan and is strongly influenced by Japanese culture and design. With the combined spontaneity and control of digital capture, Jeff Goldberg’s photographs are truly images for the new century. We hope you enjoy his work as much as we do.

In compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation of historic buildings, The Chesler Group and Chesler Construction performed a complete historic restoration of the ASM headquarters building. This project marked one of the first Mid-Century Modern historic building restorations to be part of the Department of the Interior’s Federal Tax Credit Program. The renovation encompassed interior and exterior improvements including new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, ADA compliant restrooms and egress, window restoration and refurbishment of the unique exterior stainless steel solar shades, repair of steel columns and concrete structural elements as well as vegetative green roof renovation.

The design team included: The Chesler Group, Dimit Architects and Timothy J. Norris & Associates.
