Historical Information
This highly stylized, turn-of-the-century, Italianate Mansion was built in 1883 as a family home for Phillip Gaensslen, a German immigrant and the owner of the only German language newspaper in Cleveland. After the war, the mansion was occupied by Home for Unwed Mothers, and then became a church. From 1960s to 80s, the building was used as offices for a steel fabrication company.
Michael E. Chesler purchased the mansion and the complete rehabilitation and redevelopment was completed in 1999. The building is registered on National Register of Historic Places, National Landmark, and Cleveland Landmark.
