ASM World Headquarters at Materials Park 1959

New Artistic Rendering (May 2010)

ASM Renovation featured by The Plain Dealerfs Art and Architecture Critic, Steven Litt (January 2010)

Excerpt from The Plain Dealer website—gThe ASM International complex in Russell Township, listed on the National Register of Historic places, will soon undergo restorationh by Steven Litt, January 19, 2010

Nothing dates quicker than yesterday's vision of the future. But that's part of the charm of the headquarters of ASM International, the Materials Information Society, located along Ohio 87 in the countryside of Russell Township, about 20 miles east of Cleveland in Geauga County.

Completed in 1959, the complex is dominated by a gigantic geodesic dome designed by the visionary architect and futurist R. Buckminster Fuller, who coined the term "Spaceship Earth" and whose metal-clad Dymaxion House, a prototype for mass-produced housing, resembled a "Buck Rogers" spaceship.

Andrew Jackson House Renovation Completed Fall 2009

Andrew Jackson House Renovation featured in Akron Beacon Journal (February 2010)

Excerpt from Akron Beacon Journal—gVictorian home lovingly restored into office spaceh by Mary Beth Breckenridge, February 26, 2010

A charred spot hides under the rug in Christine Amer Mayer's office.

It was left in the oak floorboards of the Andrew Jackson House intentionally, a reminder of the building's rough condition before it was restored recently to house the offices of the GAR Foundation.

The 15,585-square-foot building at Mill and Union streets had long been a proud but deteriorating landmark in the University Park neighborhood. Vacant for years, the former Odd Fellows Temple at times even sheltered homeless squatters, who burned some of the molding to keep warm and in the process scorched the floor of what would become the work space of Mayer, the foundation's chief operating officer and legal counsel.

Andrew Jackson House Historic Renovation Featured in Properties Magazine, November 2009

gReviving a Relic"- Renovation effort brings discarded Andrew Jackson House back to life in Akronh By Mark Watt

When Michael Chesler first walked into the Andrew Jackson House in late 2006, the historic, Second Empire-style mansion was in rough shape—it had been vacant for close to 20 years. Located at 277 East Mill Street in Akron near the edge of the University of Akronfs campus, the building had enjoyed a compelling history – first as home to Akron lumber magnate Andrew Jackson when it was built in 1868 and later as home to the local chapter of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows beginning in 1910. But in recent decades, it had fallen into disrepair and was condemned by the City of Akron in 2006. Homeless men and women occupied the home and built fires on its floors, removing and burning pieces of the historic solid walnut trim and dimensional lumber to keep warm. There were no toilets, no running water and no working mechanical system. Rooms were stuffed with broken pianos, organs, furniture and other discarded items.

The mansion is new headquarters for two private foundations serving Akron and Northeast Ohio. The anchor tenant is GAR Foundation. GAR houses its executive, administrative and program staff, as well as provides public space for community events. The mansion also provides space for the Akron-based staff members of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
