Michael Chesler

President

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Michael Chesler spent much of his early career working as an analyst for Time Magazine in Tokyo. He moved back to Cleveland in 1988 to found The Chesler Group, Inc. (TCG). Since that time, Mr. Chesler has renovated over 30 historic buildings ranging from nineteenth century mansions to Mid-Century modern buildings. Mr. Chesler was awarded the Individual Merit Award in 2009 from the Ohio Historic Preservation Office for 20 years of service.

Mr. Chesler is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Case Western Reserve University and earned both B.A./B.S. degrees. He serves on several boards, including the Visiting Committee of the College of Arts and Sciences for Case Western Reserve University, Heritage Ohio, and The Preservation Trust.


Anke Schreiber

Anke Schreiber is a native of Germany and has over 15 years of experience in the finance industry. Ms. Schreiber joined TCG in 2002 and has worked on the development and finance side of the business. Over the last 10 years, Ms. Schreiber has handled the fiscal management of each project, as well as the historic tax credits and property management. She is an expert in financing and monetization of tax credit real estate deals. Ms. Schreiber received her banking degree from Deutsche Sparkassenakademie, Institut fuer Fernstudien Bonn.


Chika Aizu

Chika Aizu is a native of Tokyo, Japan and is the primary operating executive of Chesler Construction, LLC (CCL). Over the past seven years, she has worked on TCG’s most challenging historic renovation projects. Ms. Aizu grew up in the construction business in Japan. For over 50 years, her father and grandfather have owned and operated a well-respected mechanical and electrical contracting company specializing in the unique areas of Tokyo subway and mass transportation. Ms. Aizu received her B.A. from Oberlin College.


Ben Davis

Construction Supervisor

Ben Davis is the Construction Supervisor and Manager of CCL. He was the construction manager for historic renovation projects of ASM World Headquarters building and, most recently, the Market Block Building. Prior to joining CCL, Mr. Davis served as a platoon sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and is a three-time tour combat veteran in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. The leadership skills he learned during his service are applied on a daily basis in his work. Mr. Davis received his associate’s degree from Hocking College.


Jeff Klecka

Construction Foreman

Jeff Klecka has worked for CCL for over 15 years. He is a master electrician, with 35 years of experience in the field. Additionally, he is a master woodworker. Mr. Klecka is widely known in the construction industry as “The Wizard”. CCL has yet to encounter an electrical or wood working problem Mr. Klecka could not solve.


Christine Mercer, CPA

Treasurer | Controller

Christine Mercer, CPA works in the finance department and controls TCG’s cash resources and manages its tax compliance. She is a licensed CPA and has 11 years of financial experience in project finance and budgeting. Ms. Mercer received her B.A. in Accounting and M.A. in MIS from The Ohio State University.


Ron Sutphin

Construction Specialist

Ron Sutphin, a native of Chesapeake West Virginia, worked as a young boy for the Willoughby Baking Company where he learned the Old World skills of baking. He has worked in various construction trades and is a senior electrician, skilled carpenter, and master painter. Because he loves working with his hands, Mr. Sutphin found his way into CCL where the romance of building and restoring historic properties allows him to be creative and do the work which he truly enjoys. Mr. Sutphin has worked for CCL for over 10 years.


Justin Edwards

Construction Specialist

Justin Edwards has been in the building trade since he was 14 years old constructing garages. Mr. Edwards later developed expertise as a carpenter, then began to master work as an electrician. He has worked for CCL for 5 years and he is a senior electrician and skilled carpenter.
